Tasks

Overall responsibility for the work packages of the contractor

• Ensuring the coherence and complementarity of the contractor’s services across work packages as well as with other services delivered by the project and other development agencies

• Design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation responsibility of measures for local partners in the areas under work packages 1-7, in coordination with the other experts

• Taking cross-cutting themes into consideration (for example, gender equality, regional outreach)

• Staff management, in particular identifying the need for short-term assignments within the available budget, planning and managing the assignments and supporting local and international experts

• Ensuring that monitoring procedures are carried out

• Regular reporting in accordance with deadlines

• Responsibility for checking the use of funds and financial planning in consultation with the officer responsible for the commission at GIZ

• Supporting the officer responsible for the commission in updating and/or adapting the project strategy, in evaluations and in preparing a follow-on phase

• Communication of observed other development agencies’ activities in the field of intervention and providing recommendations for leveraging synergies and avoiding duplication

• University degree (master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Entrepreneurship or Innovation

• Full proficiency in English (C2), levels in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

• 10 years of professional experience in the field of private sector development of which 5 years in an international context

• 8 years of professional experience in advising organisations (e.g., BMOs, consultancies, BDSP, etc.) in the field of business advisory services (financial/business/technology/technical), of which 5 years with special emphasis on private BDS market development approaches

• 6 years of management/leadership experience as project team leader or manager in a company, of which 2 years in a fragile context

• 4 years of work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa of which 2 years in East Africa

• 2 years of experience with certification processes of BDSPs / management consultants and 2 years of experience in promoting BDS for women-led businesses

The project "Strengthening the Business Development Service Market in Ethiopia“ focusses on improved growth opportunities for MSMEs, start-ups and SGBs through enhanced business development services (BDS) provided by private BDS providers.

• Responsible for awareness raising activities for aspiring BDSP

Responsibility for work packages 1 to 4, support to other work packages

• Identification and selection of appropriate certification schemes

• Development of the capacity building training and certification programme

• Supporting the development of business models for dissemination of services to target groups by each BDSPs;

• Observe linkages between work package 1 to 4 and other work packages under this assignment as well as the other outputs of the project and other development partners’ activities, inform team leader about such and provide recommendations

• Coordination of short-term experts relevant for capacity building measures

• University degree (master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Business Law Entrepreneurship or Innovation

• Working proficiency in English (C2), levels in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

• 8 years of professional experience in the field of private sector development of which 5 years with a focus on the promotion of SMEs and/or start-ups through BDS

• 5 years of professional experience covering the design of awareness raising, capacity building training program and certification for private sector support organizations (e.g., BDSP, incubators, BMOs, etc.)

• 2 years of training and/or work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa

• 4 years of experience working in or in cooperation with DC projects

• 2 years of experience in promoting BDS for women-led businesses
